Gourmap ("we", "us") is a mobile app for logging restaurant visits and sharing them with friends. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are. It applies to the Gourmap app and to this website. Gourmap is operated from The Netherlands and follows the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Data we collect
Account data. Email address, password (stored hashed), display name, username, and optional profile photo and bio.
Content you create. Restaurant visits, including photos, video, rating, note, date, and the companions you tag; comments and likes; your want-to-visit list; who you follow.
Location. Restaurant locations are stored as part of a visit. If you allow it, we use your device location to find nearby restaurants and to center the map. We do not track your location in the background.
Usage and diagnostics. Crash reports and basic product analytics (screens used, feature usage) so we can fix bugs and improve the app. This data is pseudonymous and processed in the EU where possible.
Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, we store a device token to deliver them.
How we use it
- To provide the app: your profile, visits, map, feed, and notifications.
- To show your content to other users according to your privacy setting (see below).
- To send account emails such as a welcome message and password resets.
- To send product news only if you opted in. You can opt out at any time in the app or via the unsubscribe link.
- To keep the service secure and to fix bugs.
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.
Who can see your content
Accounts are public by default: your profile and visits are visible to other Gourmap users. If you set your account to private, only approved followers can see your visits, likes, comments, and companions. Restaurant pages show aggregated information from public visits.
Service providers
We use these providers to run Gourmap. Each processes data only on our instructions.
- Supabase (EU) – database, authentication, and file storage for photos and video.
- Mapbox – map rendering.
- Google Places – restaurant search and details.
- Expo – app builds and push notification delivery (Apple and Google deliver the notification to your device).
- Resend – transactional and, with your consent, marketing email.
- Sentry – crash reporting.
- PostHog (EU) – product analytics.
Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, visits, photos, video, comments, likes, and follows are removed. Backups and crash logs are purged within 30 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app: open your profile, go to Settings, and choose Delete account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
If you can no longer access the app, email info@gourmap.app from the address linked to your account and we will delete it within 30 days.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, ask for a copy of it, or object to processing. Email info@gourmap.app. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Children
Gourmap is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
This website
This website is static, sets no cookies, and uses no analytics.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app. The date at the top shows the current version.
